The Rumors

Note: The speculations that follow are mostly the result of chatter on the forum of this very site. Author names are given where possible to these, the theories hand-selected by Dienne Yales Herlsif to showcase on this, the main Rumors page of HPR.

These rumors have been pruned from the old list to take into account the developments in book seven. No blantant spoilers on this page yet, but just knowing which questions are answered and which are not may ruin it regardless. So if you haven't read the latest installment yet, please read these at your own risk.

Mrs. Norris is an unregistered Animagus. (**Denied by JKR**)

I heard rumors about Mrs. Norris being a animagi. I don't believe it. She acts like a sneekoscope U know that little top thing that wisles when something untrustworthy is going on. Well I think Mrs. Norris swolowed one or something as a kiitten and when ever some thing untrustworthy is going on a wisle gos off in side her head. Hey it would expain why she knows everytime you do something wrong.

One of the uses of dragon blood is as a healing agent or anti-bruising kind of thing, because Hagrid was holding a dragon steak over his eye after the whole Grawp incident.

HARRY AS HEIR OF GRYFFINDOR:

I belive that maybe the Weasleys are Godric's heir. Here are my reasons why...

1. ALL the Weasleys have been put into Gryffindor. Doesn't that seem a little...odd?
2. The colors are scarlet and gold. Ron has red hair. Scarlet is a shade of red.
3. All of his brothers are excellent at Hogwarts. Godric was perhaps the greatest of the 4 founders, so, it makes sense as to why they are all so...so... perfect.
4. That would explain why the Malfoys hate the Weasleys so much.
5. Voldemort targeted Ginny. He tried to kill her, so maybe he knows or suspects and just wants to wait to add more "drama" to it.

Piers Polkiss can speak Parseltounge (since he heard Harry talking to the snake in the zoo).

Okay, there are rumors about how in some copies of the fourth book, that when Harry and Voldemort's wands did their Priori Incatatem, that James' echo came out before Lily's, and that it may mean something really important. It has been confirmed that this was simply a mistake and a revised version is what's being printed now. If you have one of the first editions in which this mistake was printed, hold on to it; it may be worth a lot of money someday.

Crookshanks is not an Animagus; he is part kneazle. In "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", it says that a kneazle can interbreed with cats, and that if it takes a liking to a witch or wizard, it can make a very loyal pet (Crookshanks and Hermione!) It can also detect unsavory characters (like Scabbers!)- all the signs point to that- plus Crookshanks slightly unusual appearance. (Confirmed by JKR)

Sirius is not dead, just trapped in the veil. (**Fervently denied by JKR**)

What happened to the Mirror of Erised. In the end of the first book, it tells you what happens with the stone, but doesn't even mention the mirror. If Dumbledore could hide the sorcerors stone in it , who knows what else there could be inside. Anything could be inside.... even anyone! Cheers, Aubrey

It's a strange theory but (as you said "even anyone", I must add that) maybe Sirius is hiding or trapped there. He seems not to be dead just trapped somewhere. Both the mirror and the viel, where Sirius got lost seem to be very old and noone relly knows how they were made, so they are probably connected. -Misho_from_SVK-

What if that bartender at Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, Rosemerta, was going out with Sirius, Lupin, James, or Peter. She did say that James and Sirius made her laugh. Most likely she went out with Sirius, though.

ok this may sound far fetched but ok icicle backwards is elcici and in african that name means daughter of the great or something to that extent. so what if Elcici is a daughter of (Shhhhhhhh) Voldemort because in english Elcici means Erika. I have to congrat myself on my research jk . *-AFRICAN CHICK-*

(**JKR has struck down the rumors about Icicle, but this was just too well-done to remove**)

Maybe Harry had his scar BEFORE Voldemort attacked. the ancient rune of Eihwaz is shaped like a sideways lightning bolt. It symbolizes the World Tree Axis which contains the mysteries of life and death. When invoked as a CHARM (by Lily, forewarned by Dumbledore), it is a life giving force with its roots in death; a powerful stave of protection and banishment of malicious actions of others which increases personal power...it also stimulates vigilance and endurance (a dark art detector). Hermione mentions that she mixed this rune up w/ Ehwaz on an exam. Runes are thought to be viking in nature - possibly Lily's red hair points to a hereditary affinity for this type of magic. Hmmm. -Nichole

I wanted to clarify my earlier theory on a runic charm... The scar(or mark)became physically present when the energy invoked by Eihwaz was activated by Voldemort's curse. This could also explain its disappearance after Voldemort's defeat - the charm will have run its course. -Nichole

Harry Potter could be put on a chocolate frog card. He is one of the greatest wizards ever so i think he should. -Nolan

In Book 5, Dumbledore talks about a room at the Ministry of Magic that is always locked. It contains something that Harry has in abundance, but that Voldemort has none. But he doesn't say what it is.

Also, recall that there was a door that the kids could not enter when they were on the rescue mission to save Sirius (remember the room full of doors?). It didn't respond to any spells and it melted the magical lock-picking tool that Sirius had given to Harry.

When they could not go thru the door, Luna Lovegood asked something like, "Do you know what might be in that room?" Ron shuts her up by saying that it's probably filled with something stupid. Then nothing else is ever said about the room.

But JKR leaves hints like this all over her books. As others have pointed out, the smallest lines in a previous book may lead to something really big in another book. I think we will get back to this room at the Ministry of Magic in Book 7. There has to be some explanation for it.

So here's the question that I think could be most important to the rest of the series. What is in that room?

-Levi

I'd like to propose a theory based on a rumor that was sent in and it's a question about what exists in the locked room in the department of mysteries. My theory is best explained with help from the other rooms in the department, the rooms contain the greatest mysteries to mankind, death (the veil), the human mind (brains in jar), time (time turners, bell jar), the future (prophecies), and I think the locked door, which contains a substance harry's mother left in him, that voldemort cannot bear, obviously contains love. -Anonymous

Near the end of book 3, in their dark arts exam, Harry's class had to face a boggart. As you'd know, boggarts take the form of your greatest fear. No one saw Hermione's greatest fear, and she seemed really affected when she faced the boggart, which is why Harry got more marks than her in that exam. Also, when Harry's class had to face the boggart in Lupin's class, Hermione and Harry didn't get the chance to. There must be a reason why JKR isn't letting see Hermione's greatest fear.

When Moody/Barty Crouch takes Harry to office after the third task, he gives him something to drink. In book 5, theres this part where harry is reading from his text book. He reads about a potion which creates hot headedness. Its really obviuos that Harry is showing a lot more hotheadedness than he has in the other books. Is his anger simply an adolescant thing, or is it something bigger? Did Barty/Moody give Harry that potion?

I noticed that when in St Mungo's, harry and the others see Mrs Longbottom give Neville a Drooble's Best Blowing Gum wrapper, (Ootp pg 455) which seems pretty innocent at the time, but why did JKR stress the name rather than just say a sweet wrapper. Well, an anagram of Drooble's Best Blowing Gum is GOLD BRIBE BELOW ST MUNGOS !!!! And from Gof we know that Lucius Malfoy made a "most generous donation to St Mungos.'' Sounds to me like a bribe to keep the Longbottoms from recovering.

what about this: vernon and petunia didn't want Harry to go become a wizard at first, and what if there was another family that felt the same way as them.. when they got their letter from Hogwarts they didn't let their child go. Hogwarts is protected from the muggle eye by having a rusty old building with a "danger" sign near it. but if a child's parents wouldn't let them go to Hogwarts, that child isn't necessarily a muggle, they do have wizarding blood in them. so perhaps a child whose parents wouldn't let them go to hogwarts wandered to where the castle was, and saw the castle, and told other muggles about it and that's how muggles could discover the wizarding world.

what happened 2 the revolting sweater with the orange puff-balls mentioned in the 1st book? furthermore...what acually was in that vat aunt petunia was dying for harry's stonewall high school clothes??? -missy morcant
